About Us

The Digital Bridge is a nonprofit media technology organization (gGmbH) based in Dortmund, Germany. We develop intelligent digital systems for media organizations, archives, cultural institutions and the public sector. As a nonprofit, we measure our work by its public value: technology that preserves cultural memory, makes knowledge accessible and strengthens organizations that serve the public.

From development cooperation to media technology

The Digital Bridge began in international development cooperation, building data and monitoring systems for programs on several continents. That work taught us to deliver technology that holds up under real conditions — and how much depends on systems people can actually use. Over time, our focus moved to where those lessons matter most to us: media, archives and culture. Today we build AI, archive and data systems that help organizations understand, preserve and share their content.

How we work

  • Public value first

We choose our projects for their impact. As a gGmbH, our purpose is public benefit, not profit.

  • Responsible innovation

We use AI where it genuinely helps — and keep people in control where decisions matter.

  • Openness

We prefer open standards and open-source technologies: systems our partners can understand, operate and keep.

  • Long-term partnership

We stay after launch — operating, maintaining and improving what we build.
